Letter from Mr. Clark

Little Shasta Elementary School - Est 1858

8409 Lower Little Shasta Rd. – Montague, Ca, 96064

September 15, 2020

Dear Parents,

We are now into the 4th week of school at Little Shasta. Preparing for opening was quite a challenge but everyone pulled together and we made it happen. We are welcoming three new employees; Ashley Pottenger is our cafeteria aide, serving the lunches prepared for us at Montague Elementary School and managing our After School Program. Kylee Kump is serving as our Instructional Aide and Miranda Vasquez is in a new position as Health & Sanitation Aide. Together with our teachers Mrs. Salvestro and Mrs. Robinson, we are all working hard to provide a safe and exciting educational environment for our students.

We have implemented all of our COVID safeguards outlined in our reopening plan including our screening station with a quick health questionaire & temperature check - staff are checked too, the classrooms were organized with no toys, rugs or extra furniture. All PPE are well stocked – masks, gloves, sanitizer, bleach and a defogger that we use daily. We have lines for distancing for all outside areas and special cafeteria seating. We have an extra hand washing station and our Health & Sanitation Aide spends all day sanitizing  our classrooms and MPR, the kids help clean too. We installed plexiglass partitions in the classrooms on all desks and tables. We provide for frequent handwashing, sanitizer use and give "mask breaks". We have individualized recess & PE equipment for each student and provide daily water bottles and masks for staff & third - sixth graders. And of course physical distancing all day, a tough one for kids!.

Overall we feel really good about the changes we needed to make and will continue to be as safe as possible. The kids have been great and so have the parents, everyone is very supportive. As we head into Fall and Winter the biggest challenge will be dealing with the illnesses that we normally have but now with the threat of COVID - 19. Anyone with a fever will need to stay home for at least 2 weeks and other kids and staff with cold symptoms will need to stay home until it passes. We are ready with Independent Study for those that this affects. We are truly all in this together.
