 May 5, 2020                                                                            Superintendent’s Update

As we continue to watch the news, we see our country in turmoil. Corona Virus cases continue to rise, there are still many people dying and protestors are demanding the re-opening of our country. And yet, as we look around our own community and county, we see that of the few cases we had (5), all have recovered. Still, we are in California and under the orders of our Governor to stay at home while schools and most business are closed.

Schools are closed mainly because of the belief that the youngest of our population are most likely to be asymptomatic to the virus. That they could possibly be infected, not show it and infect parents, grandparents and other more vulnerable family members. For now anyway, the reality is that Little Shasta has to remain closed and you as parents are trying to conduct school at home. We truly appreciate how difficult this can be!

Today is the National Day of the Teacher that we celebrate every year. This year however it takes on a completely new meaning. This year we have teachers in every one of our homes…YOU! Today we celebrate the efforts all of you have put in to educate your children. Moms, dads, grandparents, older siblings. We appreciate all the work we see coming back in and what it takes to make that happen. I also appreciate all the work our teachers have put in preparing work packets and figuring out how to teach online. Good job Mrs. Salvestro and Mrs. Robinson and congratulations to all our teachers at home!

Today we are looking at five more weeks of school. Keep in mind that if your students were at school, they would be showing the same waning enthusiasm that you are probably seeing at home. That is why at this time of year; we start to do more outside activities, garden planting and fun lessons. It is ok to back off a bit on the sit and work mode. I for one am so ready to get this all behind us and start school in the fall, something like normal. Until then let’s stay positive and again, you parents are doing a GREAT JOB!

Sincerely,

Todd Clark
